The Department of English, established in 2010, is one of the oldest and prominent departments of the institution. The Post Graduate course in English Language and Literature, since its inception in 2012 has been a tremendous phase in the growth of the Institution.

 

The Department has steadily grown and emerged as one of the leading departments of the College with a total strength of 14 members. It has hosted several international, national, and regional seminars, workshops and competitions over the years. Members of the faculty have presented papers at international seminars and also published papers in reputed literary journals, both national and international. The Department has published some of the selected distinguished works of the participants online.

 

The Department holds a well-equipped library with more than 1000 books and several research journals.

Mission

Our mission is strengthening of liberal education of students by developing a profound understanding of language and literature, the value of critical reading and effective writing, and the richness of literature, past and present. Our faculty is committed to an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, evident in their involvement in programmes such as Ethnic Studies, Women’s Studies, Film Studies, International Studies, and Environmental Studies. The Department’s policies and its reading- and writing-intensive curriculum demonstrate our commitment to the liberal arts.

We seek to foster knowledge and love of literature and of language in our students. We proffer a coherent curriculum and relevant, well-structured course choices. We teach and encourage the students to attain literary, analytical, pedagogical, and theoretical skills. We ensure our effective assistance to enhance the communication skills of our students.

  • Convey knowledge of literary history, literary forms, literary theory, and a wide variety of texts and a wide array of vocabularies and practices are explored for this purpose.
