The Department of Psychology visited Kerala Police Academy, Thrissur on the 11th of August 2022. On reaching the academy, we visited the premises. From there, we were directed to the dog school and the trainer Ramesh sir explained, how they train dogs in the different forms of detection, like tracking and the other procedure. The first half of the session was conducted by Wahid Sir, giving a brief history of how the academy was established, the facilities, and the educational developments provided. The class ended with his own experience in the vast field. The next session was by Jayesh Sir, the only criminologist in the academy; he explained the possibility of a job in the department of criminology and the origins of forensic psychology, criminology, forensic science, and different theories related to psychology and forensic science. On the importance of forensic psychology, he also mentioned other prospects and its significance in other countries. Within a short time, sir educated the various theories of forensic psychology, and how people evolved in connecting a crime and the criminal. In the end, he quoted a very important statement “The crime is that to be removed and not the criminal”, after that sir presented several case studies. The class ended with a Q & A session, which was then followed by a visit to the forensic science and criminology lab. 72 students and 4 teachers participated in the program. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Ms.Zeenath Ziyad, Student coordinator, III rd BSc. Psychology.
