The Department of Social Work of KMM College of Arts and Science, Thrikkakara, in collaboration with Smart India Foundation and the WASH Institute, organized a National Seminar on "Green Social Work, Climate Change, and the WASH Sector" on August 19, 2024, at Cochin Public School Auditorium. The seminar aimed to empower social work professionals and students to address climate change and WASH challenges, promoting sustainability and social justice. The event saw the participation of 216 individuals, including social work students, professionals, and academicians. The Seminar was inaugurated by the college principal, Ms Sabana Backer. The seminar highlighted the importance of Green Social Work, focusing on its role in addressing climate change, environmental sustainability, water, sanitation, and health. Key sessions were led by experts such as Dr. Semichen Joseph, Ms. Sahana Goswami, Mr. Sridhar Selvaraj, and Ms. Anju Varghese, covering topics like climate resilience, vulnerable communities, and WASH interventions. The program also included paper presentations on the role of Green Social Work in advancing sustainable communities. A panel discussion on climate change and WASH, moderated by Mr. Dalin Dias, further deepened the discourse. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Ashiq Sabu, followed by cultural performances by students of the Social Work Department and a musical performance by the band Ekthara.
